Dubai – Unlike Dubai, which does not have financial problems and has equipped law enforcement with exotic super sports cars, sports cars are not so common in other police departments.
There are few countries in the world where the Volkswagen Golf has such a privileged status as in the Balkans. Except for the German market, one of the countries where the golf is very popular is South Africa. The golf has been present in that country for decades, and is known for the modernized design of the first generation golf that remained on the market until 2009. The love for Golf is also shown in the police force, with the Durban police announcing on social media about the addition to their fleet. They have acquired a total of 50 of these cars, which have already started serving on the roads of the city. They are models before the redesign, but with remarkable performance.
The police are aware of this, so a special driving course has been organized that every officer must pass before taking over a new vehicle. The police also responded to negative comments from individuals who allegedly witnessed poor driving skills of police officers. „We have heard your concerns about abuse, so, with appropriate training and supervision, we are working to prevent any potential misuse of these vehicles. Policemen must adhere to the highest standards, and we appreciate feedback in an effort to greater responsibility and professionalism on the roads.“
Interestingly, this is not the first case of purchasing sports Golf GTIs for the needs of state services. In February, the unit for priority investigations known as Hawks took delivery of 22 GTIs. Hawks is an elite law enforcement agency that investigates organized crime, economic crime, corruption, and other serious crimes. The Volkswagen Golf GTI in South Africa starts at around 42,000 euros, with the cost of adapting it for police service.
