Betty Nash, stjuardesa from the USA with the longest seniority in the world, passed away at the age of 88 after serving guests on planes for almost 67 years. Nash began flying with the now defunct airline Eastern Airlines in 1957 and mostly worked on the route between Washington and Boston so she could be home every night to take care of her son, as reported by ABC. The romance and glamour of flying initially attracted her to this profession.
„I wanted to be a flight attendant from the moment I first entered a plane – I was 16. The pilot and flight attendant walked down the aisle and I thought ‘Oh my God,’ and I said that’s for me,“ Nash said to CNN.
„At the beginning of my career, you have to be a certain height, you have to weigh a certain amount. It was terrible. Gain a few pounds, and if you stay like that, they would take you off the payroll. You have to constantly measure yourself,“ she said, as reported by The Guardian.
In 2022, Nash received the title from the Guinness Book of Records for the longest career as a flight attendant. She never officially retired from her position at American Airlines and passed away on May 17 at a nursing home after a recent diagnosis of breast cancer.
„We mourn the loss of Betty Nash, who has lovingly cared for our passengers in the air for almost seven decades. Fly high, Betty,“ American Airlines said in a statement.
