– The organ donors will be the parents of the patients, and our experts are currently unable to perform this complex operation independently. This way, our insured are provided with treatment in Serbia instead of being sent abroad, and also, for local doctors, this is an opportunity to acquire new knowledge in order to improve the children’s kidney transplant program from living donors in Serbia – announced the Republic Health Insurance Fund (RFZO).
They added that the same team of doctors from the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London performed a successful kidney transplant at Tirsova for a child last year at the expense of RFZO, and in February of this year, for two more children.
This team of doctors from London specializes in kidney transplants in children and is internationally recognized as one of the best in the world. They will provide their knowledge and experience to local doctors to improve the kidney transplant program from living donors in Serbia.
Kidney transplantation is a complex operation that requires high expertise and special equipment. In Serbia, there are currently not enough experts capable of performing such operations in children, so the arrival of the team from London is of great importance for the healing of these children and the improvement of the health system in the country.
Two children who will undergo a kidney transplant have already been prepared for the operation, and their parents will be organ donors. This is an emotionally difficult moment for everyone involved, but they hope that the operation will be successful and that the children will soon be healthy and happy.
RFZO has allocated funds for this operation to enable children in Serbia to receive treatment in the country instead of being sent abroad. In addition, this is an opportunity for local doctors to gain new knowledge and skills to be able to independently perform such operations in the future.
It is expected that the operation will be successful and that the children will soon be discharged from the hospital and continue their recovery at home. This is just one example of collaboration between domestic and foreign experts who work together to improve the health system in Serbia and provide the best possible care to children facing serious health problems.
Kidney transplantation is often the only option for children with serious kidney damage and can save their lives. Therefore, it is important to ensure access to this type of surgery and to enable children to receive the appropriate care and treatment in their country.
The Republic Health Insurance Fund continues to organize similar collaborations to provide the highest quality health care to its insured and improve the health system in Serbia. This is just one step towards a better future for all patients in the country, and we hope that such initiatives will become more common in the future.
