Iranci today executed one more guilty person due to the crimes that occurred during the protests that erupted in 2022 across the country, after the death of a young woman in police custody for violating morality.
According to the state television report, Mohamed Kobadlu was executed after being convicted of killing one and injuring five police officers, whom he ran over with his car during the protest in the city of Parand, near the capital Tehran, reports AP.
In the report, iranske TV states that 23-year-old Kobadlu admitted his crime, that he had his lawyer during the trial, and that he complained about the death sentence imposed by the lower court, but the Supreme Court later upheld the original verdict.
According to the Associated Press, Kobadlu’s execution is the ninth since the protests erupted in the fall of 2022.
The months-long riots ensued after 22-year-old Mahse Amini died on September 16, 2022 in police custody for morality, which had arrested her for not wearing the mandatory hijab.
During the protests, at least 529 people were killed, and tens of thousands of others were arrested.
The demonstrations gradually subsided in the first few months of last year.
Although the Shiite clergy has long played an important role in Iran, especially after the Islamic revolution of 1979, in recent years there has been growing dissatisfaction expressed during waves of protests over the deterioration of economic, political, and civil rights, AP said.
